Position Overview

POSITION SUMMARY The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing preventive oral care, conducting professional cleanings, and educating patients on oral health best practices. This role plays a crucial part in assessing oral health conditions, performing periodontal treatments, and assisting dentists in identifying potential dental issues. OBJECTIVES Perform all patient cleanings, scaling, and periodontal treatments with precision and adherence to industry standards. Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and oral care techniques to improve long-term dental health. Record patient oral health conditions, treatment history, and X-rays accurately in dental records. Reduce patient gingivitis and periodontal disease progression through effective cleanings, deep scaling, and patient guidance. Maintain exceptional patient satisfaction by ensuring a comfortable and professional experience during procedures. Take properly positioned and diagnostically clear digital X-rays to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Ensure complete adherence to sterilization, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. Complete hygiene appointments on schedule, minimizing wait times and improving office efficiency. Effectively communicate findings to dentists for timely diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Increase patient acceptance of sealants, fluoride treatments, and other preventive care options. Pursue ongoing professional development to stay updated on the latest dental hygiene techniques and advancements. Support patient recall efforts, ensuring returning patients schedule hygiene appointments consistently for preventive care. COMPETENCIES Expertise in scaling, root planing, polishing, fluoride application, and periodontal treatments to maintain excellent patient oral health. Ability to explain oral hygiene techniques, treatment plans, and preventive care strategies in a clear and engaging manner. Proficiency in taking and interpreting digital X-rays, ensuring high-quality imaging to support accurate diagnoses. Strong ability to assess oral health conditions, document findings, and ensure complete and accurate patient records. Thorough understanding of sterilization techniques, HIPAA regulations, and workplace safety protocols to ensure patient and staff safety. Ability to manage appointment schedules, minimize patient wait times, and maintain productivity in a fast-paced dental practice. Works effectively with dentists, dental assistants, and front office staff to ensure seamless patient care and treatment coordination. Ability to create a comfortable experience for patients, particularly those with dental anxiety, fostering trust and long-term relationships. Capacity to adjust to different patient needs, troubleshoot clinical issues, and provide flexible solutions for treatment challenges. Commitment to upholding dental industry standards, maintaining patient confidentiality, and demonstrating ethical decision-making. Dedication to staying current with advancements in dental hygiene, new treatment techniques, and continuing education opportunities. Experience with dental practice management software, digital charting, and scheduling systems.
